Wow, 2019 was a really great year for cookbooks! The trend of blogger-authored books continued well into the year and I’ve included two of them in my shortlist below. There were so many good goods for me to chose from, which made writing this list an enormously difficult task. I’ve narrowed down the field of amazing cookbooks published this year to my top 4. I have purchased and loved 2 of them and the remaining 2 have been on my wishlist since the preorders were available. So, without further ado, here is the Bookish Kitchen 2019 Cookbook Round-Up, in no particular order:

2019 Cookbook: Half Baked Harvest Super Simple

Half Baked Harvest Super Simple, by Tieghan Gerard

If you’ve ever browsed through Tieghan Gerard’s blog Half Baked Harvest you already know that she is the queen of comfort food. And, luckily for us, her latest cookbook is no different. This book, though, is full of new recipes and all of them have multiple ways to cook them. While thumbing through this beautifully photographed book, it’s easy to see that Tieghan really wanted to make all of the recipes accessible for everyone, no matter their schedule or cooking preferences. Almost all of them have instructions for normal stovetop cooking as well as slow cookers and multicookers (like the Instant Pot), so they’re all easily adaptable to fir your busy life and schedule. So far, I’ve made the Instant Chicken Gumbo on the stovetop, with a couple of my own modifications, and it was amazing. Look for the recipe here soon but in the meantime, you should add this book to your wishlist!

2019 Cookbook: 5 Ingredients

I have been a huge fan of Jamie Oliver for a very long time. I just love his breezy style of cooking, just chuck a couple of things in the pan, apply heat, and you have an easy and delicious meal, that might be a little bit healthy too. So, of course, I had to get this one too. And I recently found out that my local PBS station (and probably yours too if you’re based in the USA) has 2 seasons of the show that accompanies the book. All of the recipes use only 5 ingredients, not including staples like salt, pepper, olive oil, and red wine vinegar, and they’re all quite easy too. I haven’t cooked any recipes from this book, yet, but I do have more than 20 flagged for myself to make in the new year. I know this is a 2019 cookbook roundup, but I will be cooking from the book well into 2020! It’s a beautiful book, and if you’re a fan of Oliver’s you appreciate his simple writing style, which makes for an easy-to-read book full of vibrant flavors.

2019 Cookbook: From the Oven to the Table

From the Oven to the Table,
by Diana Henry

If you haven’t heard of the cookbook author, Diana Henry, then you are honestly missing out. She has authored some amazing books like How to Eat a Peach, Simple, and A Bird in the Hand which you should definitely check out as well. Henry is known for her passionate and lovely food writing and for her easy to understand and well-thought-out recipe writing style. I have read many of her books after first hearing the author’s praises sung by the hosts of the podcast Local Mouthful, and I’ve had her latest book, From the Oven to the Table, on my wishlist ever since. All of the recipes can be made in one pan or dish which makes your dinner life super easy. Just prep all of the ingredients, then pop the dish in the oven and wait for it all to roast up while you move onto to other things. The book includes recipes for quick weeknight dinners, lighter vegetable meals, as well as impressive dishes for your next dinner party or holiday meal.

2019 Cookbook: Weeknight Baking

From Michelle Lopez, the blogger behind Hummingbird High, comes a revolutionary way of fitting your love of baking into your busy weekday schedule. In Weeknight Baking, Lopez combines beautiful and delicious recipes with time-saving tips and tricks as well as cute stories from her life. If you’re a fan of her blog, or you just love amazing baked goods and think dessert is the best part of every meal, I highly recommend checking this book out.
